Overview
For NovelXChange, the idea was to provide a whimsical yet user friendly app for a service that allows avid readers to exchange books with other readers easily. NovelXchange addresses the need for a private and user-friendly book-swapping platform. By providing a secure environment where users can request and exchange books anonymously, NovelXchange fosters a sense of community among readers while preserving their privacy. Through intuitive features and a sleek interface, NovelXchange streamlines the book-swapping process, making it effortless for users to connect with others who share similar literary interests.
Many avid readers often find themselves with books they've already read and no longer need, while simultaneously seeking new titles to explore. However, existing book-swapping platforms often compromise user privacy, requiring personal information or exposing reading preferences publicly. This lack of privacy and convenience discourages users from participating in book exchanges, limiting their ability to discover new titles and engage with a like-minded community.

Doing the research
Extensive user research was conducted to understand the pain points of existing book-swapping platforms and to identify the features users value most. Surveys, interviews, and usability tests helped uncover insights into user preferences, privacy concerns, and desired functionalities.
Designing the app
I decided on bright yet muted colors because, during my hunt for inspiration, I found that a lot of apps looks the same. On the main page, the books are placed on "shelves" that you are able to swipe through. Drawing from my library volunteer experience, I categorized the books by genre to make it easier for the user to find the kind of book they're looking for.
Outcome
The final product is one I'm extremely proud of. There are a few more elements and interactions I'd like to add in the future, but the place its in right now still brings me joy.
Inspired by my passion for reading and driven by a desire to address a real-world need, I conceived the idea for NovelXchange. Recognizing the limitations of existing book-swapping platforms, I envisioned a solution that would revolutionize the way readers connect and exchange books. Drawing from my own experiences as an avid reader, I combined creativity with strategic thinking to develop a concept that prioritizes user privacy, convenience, and community engagement.
